The original World Trade Center consisted of seven buildings, most notably and world famous, the Twin Towers or WTC 1 and 2. Constructed between 1966 and 1987, the World Trade Center was the symbol of America's global dominance. On February 26, 1993, an attempt to collapse the World Trade Center was carried out by al-Qaeda terrorists by parking a rented truck, rigged with explosives, in the World Trade Center car park. Six people died in the attack, but both towers sustained the blast, however, it wasn't too long before the next attack on the World Trade Center occurred, bringing deadly consequences. On the morning of September 11, 2001, five al-Qaeda hijackers deliberately crashed American Airlines Flight 11 into the North Tower, seventeen minutes later; another five hijackers flew United Airlines Flight 175 into the South Tower. People present in the North Tower from floors ninety three and up were unable to evacuate and some decided to jump to their deaths. One stairway w! as passable in the South Tower still, some people decided to jump or stay. While this was happening in New York City, more hijackings were occurring. Around half an hour after the South Tower impact, American Airlines Flight 77 was deliberately flown into the Pentagon. Half an hour after that, United Airlines Flight 93 crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania due to the heroism acted by the passengers and crew.
